In the not-too-distant past, tree topping was considered responsible tree care, and we have many survivors of this type of work around our community. Your topped tree’s future viability depends on many factors including species, age, vigor, and how much of the crown was removed, and how frequently.
In many cases we can restore what was lost and train second- or third-generation sprouts into a strong, beautiful and acceptably safe canopy. While many trees are beyond saving, we always look for an alternative to removal, since mature trees take a lifetime to replace.
